Where was Oḍḍiyāna, the legendary Land of the Ḍākinīs and source of so many tantric traditions? In this video, Lama Sherab Gyatso traces the journey of Chinese pilgrims, Kashmiri Śaiva-Śāktas, Tibetan masters, archaeologists and modern scholars through the evidence surrounding this mysterious sacred land. He comes to the conclusion that the historical Oḍḍiyāna was centred in the Swat Valley of northern Pakistan—before pilgrimage, tantra and sacred imagination transformed a real valley into a place that could, quite literally, fly.
